Editing Services

I offer soup-to-nuts editorial services — in other words, everything you could possibly need to write a book you can be proud of! After we have discussed your book and what kind of editorial support you require, I will quote you a flat fee that will not change unless the parameters of your project significantly change.

When you choose me to be your editor, here are the services available to you:

  • Book consulting
  • Book coaching
  • The Writer’s Compass process
  • All three kinds of editing (see below)
  • Final manuscript consolidation and preparation
  • Referrals to other book professionals whom I know and trust
  • Publishing recommendations

Developmental editing is sometimes called project editing.  It includes:

  • Consulting on the book as a whole
  • Helping determine purpose and goals for the book
  • Clarifying your core message
  • Presentation of content, organization, and structure

Substantive editing is sometimes called structural editing.  It includes:

  • Clarifying and/or reorganizing a manuscript for content and structure
  • Reviewing style, tone, format, tense, word choice, sentence structure, and clarity

Copy editing is what most people think of when they think of editing.  It includes:

  • Editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and other mechanics of style
  • Checking for consistency in point of view, formatting, titling, and content
  • Organizing the manuscript to follow the guidelines of The Chicago Manual of Style
